PhD students in Finance are invited to submit their application for the EFA Doctoral Events to be held on the new campus of Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) in Carcavelos (Lisbon), Portugal, August 21, 2019. These two pre-conference events designed for doctoral students run in parallel and take place just prior to the official start of the 46th EFA Annual Meeting in Carcavelos (August 21-24, 2019).

The submission / application deadline for both EFA Doctoral Events is March 15, 2019, at 1pm (13:00) CET.

The EFA Doctoral Tutorial (EFA-DT) is an annual EFA Doctoral Event intended for Finance students who are nearing completion of their PhD and about to enter the job market. It provides students with an excellent opportunity to present their paper and receive detailed feedback from a distinguished faculty. The current format allows the EFA-DT co-chairs to select up to eight PhD student papers for presentation. Accepted students receive a stipend of EUR 1,000 to help cover registration and travel expenses. The EFA Doctoral Tutorial is sponsored by the Nasdaq Educational Foundation and the Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA).

The EFA Doctoral Workshop (EFA-DW) is a recently-launched EFA Doctoral Event and educational workshop series on “New Frontiers in Finance”. The aim of the initiative is to explore lesser-known areas of Finance and provide a solid background for PhD students interested in doing research in these fields. This closed pre-conference session is intended for PhD students in their second or third year. The focus theme topic changes each year; in 2019 it is “Environmental, Social and Governance Criteria (ESG); Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR); Socially Responsible Investment (SRI)”. The topics to be covered are: ESG/CSR from a Corporate Finance Perspective (Starks), ESG Integration in the Investment Process (Krueger), and Climate Finance (Sautner). This EFA-DW will examine, discuss, and summarize recent research on the theme topics, the data that are available, some relevant developments, as well as potential directions for future research.
